Cádiz is an island that is separated from the mainland by a narrow channel called Caño de Sancti Petri that crosses the marshes. The city is located in front of the estuary of the Guadalete River, and immersed in the Natural Park of the Bay of Cádiz, 124 km from the regional capital, Seville. The group formed by Cádiz and San Fernando is separated from the Iberian Peninsula by the Caño de Sancti Petri. Historically, the territory of Cádiz has been constituted, initially, as a small archipelago, (called Gadeiras), to a single island, a situation in which it is debated if it is currently. This particularity makes it difficult to define its geographical condition, although today it receives an insular treatment plan. She was named by Lord Byron as "Siren of the Ocean" and is popularly known as the "Silver Cup".

Its economy is based, mainly, in the commerce sector due to the presence of the shipyards and the activities of the port area and the Free Trade Zone. The other base sector of the gaditana economy is tourism, due to its beaches, to local festivals and the important historical heritage that it has.

Nowadays Cadiz is known above all for its long and influential history (it is the oldest city in Western Europe and with archaeological remains dating to 3100 years), not only in the national scope but also for its importance in processes such as Punic wars, the romanization of Iberia, 18 19 the discovery and conquest of America or the establishment of the liberal regime in Spain with its first constitution, 20 as well as its subsequent influence on the constitutions of the independent Spanish colonies. The whole city has many squares, gardens, churches and other places that remember it.
